About Paula

After graduating from college, I was commissioned as an officer in the United States Marine Corps—an experience that was both one of the most challenging and most rewarding chapters of my life. It taught me the true meaning of leadership, preparation, and responsibility—always taking care of the people I was entrusted to lead, my platoon, and my fellow Marines.

Later, I earned my MBA from the University of Miami, which has been invaluable to my growth both professionally and personally.

The knowledge and perspective I gained continue to shape my career, and my commitment to public service has never left me. Today, it shows up in new ways—whether it’s helping my neighbors, volunteering in the community, or serving the people of Lakewood as their councilmember.

I ran for City Council to give a voice to Lakewood residents. As an avid outdoors enthusiast, I enjoy hiking, cycling, paddleboarding, and cross-country skiing.  I have been an endurance athlete most of my adult life and have completed multiple marathons, 8 half Ironman, and 2 full Ironman (140.6 miles) competitions.  I can assure you I have the stamina for the role of a City Councilor,  and with your support, I hope to continue that work

Like many people, I chose to live in Lakewood because of the parks and proximity to our beautiful Rocky Mountains. This same quality of life is sought after by many, and it’s driving growth in our communities. I believe it’s important that the projected growth in our city is managed thoughtfully and sustainably. Because of this:

  • I pushed and will continue to push to protect our parks, improve our air quality, ensure the safety of our residents, and expand options to get around our city.

  • I led the effort and got approval to establish Lakewood’s first council-driven Sustainability Committee.  We have important work ahead to ensure we are doing the right things for our environment, like protecting our trees, open spaces, and parks.  I hope you will join me in this effort!

  • One of my goals is to improve the collaboration between residents, City Council, and City staff.  There will always be differences of opinion on how to solve problems, but we can accomplish more when we work together.  There have been too many divisive issues, and the key to changing that is communication and listening to each other.

  • Recently, I have worked with Councilor Ken Cruz in a series of roundtable meetings with residents from across the city. The objective has been to improve awareness and knowledge about the proposed zoning changes, as well as capture residents’ concerns and incorporate them via amendments.  I will continue to engage with and listen to residents every day.  I take pride in ensuring that I follow up on each request/idea I receive and make that a top priority.
